A team of instructors of planning and conduction of operations, generated by the 47th Infatry Regiment "Palma", which is bound to Mauritania in the frame of the operation "Supporting Mauritania" ("Apoyo a Mauritania" in Spanish), had its farewell the 3rd of November at the Base "Jaime II" in Palma de Mallorca. The chief of the General Command from the Balearic Islands, General Juan Cifuentes, was the one in charge of personally seeing off  each of the soldiers that formed the team.

This Spanish support to the African country was put together at the 15th Hispanic-Mauritanian Joint Committee, celebrated in September 2015, in which it was agreed a program consisting on bilateral activities, including among them the instruction of the Mauritanian Armed Forces inside of the cooperative security field.

Even though there is not a permanent contingent in that area, since 2016, more than 400 Spanish soldiers have been deployed in that country in different rotations.
