Admiral Antonio Silva Ribeiro, Portuguese Chief of Defence, has visited the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Spain Headquarters (HQ NRDC-ESP its acronym) in Bétera (Spain) this morning.

During the visit he was briefed about the mission, context, organization and way ahead of the NRDC-ESP, signing at the Book of Honour. After the briefing, he visited the operations center and the planning room of the Headquarters.

The party then moved to the deployed NRDC Command Post on collective tents at the Betera military base training area, where Admiral Silva had the opportunity to know about this new command post that it can be deployed in any kind of environment with less personnel and has the required command and control means to manage up to a high intensity operation. Also, Admiral Silva had the opportunity to get first-hand knowledge of some units located in Valencia: the 21st Signal Regiment, the NRDC-ESP Support Battalion and the Military Police Battalion.

Finally, he met the components of the Portuguese contingent. Four military men are currently serving at the NRDC-ESP, among them the Deputy Commander of the Headquarters.
