Deputy Prime Minister Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría was presented on 24 November with a Commemorative Cross by Centenario del Patronazgo de Santa Teresa de Jesús, an organization set up to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of Teresa of Ávila as patron saint of the Quartermaster Corps. The award was a recognition of the joint and coordinated efforts by the public administrations “to commemorate the five hundredth anniversary of the birth of a woman who has played a prominent role in Spanish history, art and literature and in how Spain is seen by the rest of the world”.

The ceremony took place at the Palace of the Military Archbishopric in Madrid and was attended by a large representation of military commanders headed by the Chief of the Army Staff, Army General Jaime Domínguez Buj.

Sáenz de Santamaría has been the president of the National Committee in charge of commemorating the fifth centenary of the birth of the saint. She expressed her gratitude to the Quartermaster Corps for the award, stressing that it was “an honour”. In addition, she highlighted the cooperation of all public administrations, working together for a common objective: “the good of our country, the security of our people and the defence of our values”.
