The Spanish contingent in Mali receives the visit of the Minister of Defense

The Spanish contingent deployed in Mali received Pedro Morenes’ visit -the acting Spanish Minister of Defense- on October 18. Mr. Morenés went to Bamako, the capital of Mali, and to Koulikoro town to check the development of the EUTM (European Union training mission) in that African country. At his arrival in Bamako, the minister was welcomed by his Malian counterpart, Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga, with whom he had a work meeting; by the Spanish ambassador to Mali, José María Matres; and by the Spanish contingent commander, colonel Lamsfus. After that, he visited the EUTM-Mali Multinational HQ.


Following, he went to Koulikoro by helicopter to visit the Spanish units working on the instruction and training of Mali troops, the protection company (made up of Spanish and Belgian military personnel), the special operations’ teachers’ team and the logistics unit.


The Spanish commander of the contingent at the base, lieutenant colonel Gallego, was in charge to welcome Pedro Morenés whom he greeted the chief of EUTM-Mali in the locality; colonel Hinnekens from the Belgian Army; and Belgian Sangaré (chief of the base) and Dembélé (commander of the Chief of Staff School in Koliukoro). During his visit, the minister was informed about the activities developed by Spanish military personnel with whom he met afterwards
