The helicopters of the Spanish Army will participate in the support to Iraq operation

The next month of May it is expected to take place by sea route the deployment of a helicopters unit belonging to the Spanish Army in Iraq inside the "Inherent Resolve" operation. Consisting in supporting this country, the Spanish Armed Forces have been part of it since January of 2015. The Unit of helicopters, formed by three Chinook HT-17 and two Cougar HT-27, will be incorporated to the coalition to contribute to the transport of the heavy and middle rotary wing, benefiting the Spanish forces as well as the rest of countries too.

The Helicopters Unit will be commanded by Major Gala Gallego, posted in te 4th Manoeuvre Helicopters Batallion, located in "El Copero" base, in Dos Hermanas (Sevilla).

The group, with its aerial unit already boarded, will leave from Rota at the beginning of the month to start the movement to Kuwait, where it will arrive by the end of the month. Once there, the unit will conduct a movement to the final base of Taji in Iraq, which will be its base of operations during the deployment.
