Training agreements to boost the soldiery reintegration into the labour market

The improvement of professional qualifications, and providing employment guidance to the soldiers who have a temporary contractual relationship with the Armed Forces is the aim of the agreements signed yesterday by the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, and the President of Aragon, Francisco J. Lambán, representing the Minister of Defence and the Government of Aragon at the Logistics Academy of the Army in Calatayud (Zaragoza.)

The aim is to cooperate in the training field to promote the incorporation of the soldiers into the civil labour market, specially of those who are older than 45. ‘It is very important for the Ministry that they have sufficient employment guidance and they can be provided with the pertinent diplomas’, the Minister of Defence claimed.

In total, four training agreements budgeted at € 2,3 million have been formalised for 2019. This amount will be allocated to vocational training, acts of recognition of professional competences acquired by work experience, employment guidance of the military personnel, or promotion for the admission to the Armed Forces.

The aim is to put into practice a wide range of training opportunities so that this collective can find career opportunities when they finish their commitment to the Armed Forces, in case they do not reach the permanence.

This is the first agreement with these characteristics that the Minister of Defence signs with an Autonomous Community. However, there are more to be signed with Castile and Leon and Murcia.

Nowadays, the number of Army and ship soldiers at the Armed Forced amount to 74,300, from which 10,700 are permanent. The aim of the Minister of Defence is that 50% of this collective guarantees its permanence, either as soldiers or by place booking at the Public Administration.

Visit to the Academy

After the signing, Minister Robles, together with the Chief of Staff of the Army, General Francisco J. Varela, visited the premises of the Logistics Academy, one of the most innovative training centres of the Spanish Army.

There, she could get to know how the Office for Personnel Support works, managed by the Employment Institute of Aragon, and some of the vocational training workshops at the centre.
