9th EUTM Mali (European Union Training Mission)

On 5th November 2016, el VIII Spanish contigent in Mali carried out a transfer of authority in the Koulikoro Training Camp (KTC).

After 6 months in Mali, the majority of the Spanish contingent returned to national territory with the greatest satisfaction the military could have aspired to: their duties having been fulfilled.

During the evening of 5th November, the ceremony of transfer of authority of the deployed personnel took place in the Koulikor Training Camp.

The Chief of the Koulikoro contingent said some words highlighting the work carried out by the Spanish contingent and encouraging the incoming chief to continue the great work that has been done up until now.

The IX contingent is made up of one of companies of the 54th Regulars Group, personnel from the AALOG 11 and AALOG 41 and personnel from the 2nd Legion Regiment "Duque de Alba".

Spain has been participating in the European Union mission "EUTM-Mali" since April 2013, whereby the first contingent was made up of 50 troops. Subsequently, after the Council of Ministers agreement on 7th June of the same year, the number of troops increased to 110 due to the large Spanish involvement in training.

The main Spanish contingent in Mali is distributed between the localities of Bamako -where the mission headquarters are located - and in Koulikoro where the majority of the personnel dedicated to the training of the Malian military and force protection are located.  Other training activities have also been extended to other areas of Mali.
