EUMAM RCA III

The third rotation of the European Union mission to the Central African Republic left Palma de Mallorca on 11 May. The main task of the Spanish soldiers in the African country is protecting, escorting and supporting the team of military advisors sent by the Spanish government.

The contingent is mostly made up of troops from the 47th Regiment ‘Palma’. It will be relieving the second contingent, which has been in the Central African Republic since last November. The European Union mission started in May 2015.

The Balearic unit was congratulated by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini, for successfully organising the evacuation of 20 people (including diplomats, NGO workers and businessmen) from the EU Delegation in the country when it was besieged during fighting between rival militias.
