ASPFOR VIII

Since mid-May a new Spanish force has been deployed in Afghanistan. Under the command of lieutnenant colonel Baldomero Argüelles González it is made up of a total of 141 servicepersons.

Of these, 115 belong to the Army with the bulk coming from the 1st Engineer regiment in Burgos and from the 21st Tactical Signals Regiment in Marines (Valencia).

The remaining 26 belong to the Air Force and come from the Air Deployment Support Squadron (Zaragoza).

The Task Force is composed of the following units Command Support Team, Command Headquarters, Engineer Unit, Signals Unit, Logistics Support Unit and an Air Deployment Support Squadron Detachment.

The Spanish force´s particular mission is the rehabilitation and reconstruction of infrastructures within the general mission of security assistence by ISAF to the Provisional Government of Afghanistan.
