On the last 21rd May the General José Luis Sánchez Martinez-Falero, Chief of the Brigada Líbano XXIIX, received the flag authorising him as the Chief of the sector, leading from that moment on the multinational deployed forces.

The Spanish ambassor in Lebanon, the Chief of Staff of the Operational Command of the Spanish Armed Forces and large number of civilian religious and military authorities from the responsability area  for the Brigada Líbano XXIX attended the transfer of authority, showing the full integration of our contingents in the assigned area south of the Litani river.

This is the first deployment in the Operations Area of the 1st Brigade Aragón, since their creation in January 2017. However, as they were created from the framework of the old Calvary Brigade "“Castillejos”, this will be their fifth roation in the south of Lebanon.

In this way, six months of intense work begin in close collaboraton with the Lebanese Armed Forces. The Multinational Eastern Force will lead the sector, in which diverse units from Brazil, El Salvador, India, Nepal and Serbia will be intergrated.

During this period of time, as the General Martínez-Falero stressed in his speech, we expect to advance the objectives from the United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1701 and 2327. These resoultions look to implement more stability in the area in order to achieve a better development and protection of the Lebanese civilian population. In order to achieve this, the deployed forces must continue to collaborate with the Lebanese Armed Forces, to gradually take over their tasks with guaranteed success.

The main part of the Spanish contingent is found in the Base "Miguel de Cervantes" where the sector headquarters , the Senior Staff of the Tactical Light Protection Group, The Cavalry Unit, The Engineering Unit, the Logistics Unit, The Transmissions Unit, the Headquarters, The Support Unit and the Guardia Civil.
