28th Libre Hidalgo

The 11th Infantry Brigade “Extremadura” creates for the fifth time Brigade Lebanon (BRILIB) with approximately 600 effectives. In the contingent’s generation of the 28th BRILIB, the contribution of the military effectives consists of 590 soldiers belonging to the Spanish Army, 30 of them are women. 475 effectives belong to the 11th Brigade “Extremadura” and 115 to different units of the Spanish Army and the Civil Guard.

General Javier Romero Marí is the new chief of the UNIFIL’s Eastern Sector Brigade, made up of 3.500 Peacekeepers (“Cascos azules” in Spanish) , from eight different nationalities; Brazil, El Salvador, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Serbia and Spain, apart from a Chinese hospital. During six months, and since the last 21st of November of 2017, they will continue the task with previous contingents, consisting in motorizing the performance of the UN’s 1701 Resolution and accompanying and taking care of the Lebanese Armed Forces in the South of the country along the Blue Line, virtual line which separates Lebanon from Israel.

The principal nucleus of the Spanish contingent is at “Miguel de Cervantes” base, where the Staff of the Sector, the Headquarters of the Tactical Light Armoured Group (GTLP in Spanish), the Calvary Unit, the Engineers Unit, the Logistical Unit, the Signals Unit, the supporting Staff Unit, the Unit of Support to the base and the Civil Guard are placed.
