SPAGT XXII

A total of 478 servicepersons make up SPAGT XXII.

The Canary Islands Command, as the Coordination Authority,and the Troops Headquarters in Las Palmas, as the Base Unit, contribute to this Task Force with the Force Commander, Colonel Jesús Varela Rey, Artillery, and a total of 202 members (64 Commanders and 138 enlisted), distributed among the National Force Support Structure (National Chain) and Units integrated in the Multinational Brigade SE Task Force (Multinational Chain).

The remaining personnel to complete this force come from the various Army Units, the Navy and the Civil Guard.

SPAGT XXII underwent the Organisation Phase at its home Quarterings and Bases on 22nd March 2004 and after passing through a Training Phase ending on 26th April 2004, the Concentration Phase began with practically the whole Task Force on the "La Isleta" Military Base in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The farewell Ceremony for SPAGT XXII took place on 13th May 2004, in the "Plaza de Santa Ana" in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, during which the Mayor of the City and the President of the "Cabildo" (inter-island council) of Grand Canary Island presented the Force Commander with a Task Force Guidon and presented the Rifle Company Commander from the 50th Light Infantry Regiment "Canarias"with a Company Guidon.The Relief Phase began on 19th May 2004, and finished on 26th May 2004, with the Transfer of Authority (TOA) with SPAGT XXI taking place on 23rd May 2004.
