Preparation for the deployment in Iraq

The exercise of integration "Halcón" has got together, between the 2nd and 9th of March, the members of the Special Operations Command and the Special Operations Air Liaison Team, from the Air Force's Parachute Engineer Squadron, previous to its deployment for the operation "Inherent Resolve", which is being currently developed in Iraq.

The joint activity has been carried out in Madrid and León, and in it, the techniques and procedures associated with the commitments which are being developed in the operations' zone have been put into practice. Besides, missions of special operations in real time have been planned, implemented and conducted.

In the exercise, two Chinook helicopters of the Spanish Army's Airmobile Forces have participated, together with the Platform of Intelligence Searcher-MK III, from the 5th Aerial Systems Obtainment Group (GROSA in Spanish) of the 1st Intelligence Regiment.

"We make a positive balance, the exercise has been demanding and original", pointed out captain Río, from the 2nd Special Operations Group "Granada".
This way, he stressed that it has contributed to the reproduction of the conditions which take place in the operations' zone, in this case, with the innovatiom of having, for the first time, helicopters.

The exercise is conducted every six months inside the phase of preparation for the deployment in Iraq. In this case, besides, a hundred of participants had to face bad weather conditions, which has meant a challenge for the development of the missions of special operations, as well as for the employment of the different aerial aids. "It has been more demanding to work with this weather", concluded the captain.
