The ‘Extremadura’ Brigade participated in a NBC (Nuclear, Biological and Chemical) drill on the Portuguese border.

Thursday, April 25, 2019

Number: 7321

On the 11th of April the NBC battalion from the headquarters of the 11th ‘Extremadura’ Brigade took part in the first cross-border radiological accident drill organised by the Regional Government of Extremadura near the border with Portugal. The proximity to the Portuguese border required coordination between authorities in both Spain and Portugal.

The premise was based on a multiple accident involving a number of vehicles which, because of the materials which they were carrying, made it necessary to activate NBC protocol.  The objective was to evaluate the action protocols in this type of situation and to check the effectiveness of the resources and people involved.

Apart from the Brigade, during the drill´s development, the Military Emergncies Unit, the Government Delegation, the State Meteorology Agency, the National Police, the Civil Guard, Civil Protection and Emergencies from the Ministery of the Interior, as well as others, all took part. Furthermore, Portuguese troops and resources also took part.
