The Army takes part in the African Land Forces Summit.

Monday, July 1, 2019

Number: 7481

The Spanish Army was one of the few armies from outside of Africa to take part in the 7th African Land Forces Summit. The summit was held in Gaborone, Botswana from the 24th to the 27th of June and its main focus was to strengthen partnerships.

General Milán Martínez, who was chief of the European Union’s training mission in Mali from January to November 2018, was one of the nine panellists in the seminar. The event was attended by delegations from 41 African states, many of which were led by the highest ranking leaders from their armies.

The debates focused on the need to establish partnerships and reinforce those which already exist in order to face the transnational challenges caused by nature which affect the African continent and which no country can face on its own.
This meeting is regularly co-organised by the US Army Africa Command and the land forces of an African country (on this occasion, the Botswanan Land Force).
