The Panhard AML marked a period in the history of the “Montesa” Regiment until its disappearance in the mid-1980s. One of those vehicles has been returned to its base and now decorates the unit’s parade ground. And thanks to the restauration work carried out by the maintenance section of the unit, it looks as good as new.
The Panhard was at the base of the Cavalry Brigade, which handed it over to the Regiment with the blessing of the Institute of Military History and Culture. For their part, the 21st Logistic Support Group and the 23rd Logistic Unit worked together to bring the vehicle from Zaragoza to Ceuta.
As a result of the cooperation of all those units, the Armoured Cavalry Regiment “Montesa” has been able to get back one of the vehicles it used for a decade. Recovering it is a way of paying homage to those who served in its ranks at the time.
The Panhard AML was a light armoured vehicle designed by the French company Panhard in the late 1950s. It manufactured two different models; the one recovered by the “Montesa” Regiment is equipped with a 60 mm mortar.
