The 1st NBC Regiment “Valencia” took part this summer in the filming of a documentary series about viral and parasitic diseases entitled La Amenaza Silenciosa (The Silent Threat). The series, produced by Filmátropo Media, will be broadcast by the History Channel at the end of the year.

The programme’s presenter, Dr. Pilar Mateo, interviewed Regiment chief Colonel Fernando Soteras on questions related to NBC defence at its “Daoíz y Velarde” HQ. In addition, the team filmed several exercises performed by the different units of the Regiment, e.g. locating contaminated materials, decontamination procedures or area reconnaissance.

The television series will include five chapters dealing with viral and parasitic diseases (malaria, Ebola, Chagas, dengue fever, etc.) as well as issues such as population movements, predictions based on new technologies (bit data) and bioterrorism. Those subjects are tackled through the research and institutions devoted to eradicating, containing or controlling those global concerns – which include NBC defence units.
