The High Readiness Land Headquarters, known by its Spanish acronym CGTAD and based in Bétera (Valencia), received a visit by acting Defence Minister Pedro Morenés on 3 February. He was accompanied by the Chief of the Army Staff, Army General Domínguez Buj.

The holder of the Defence portfolio pointed out that the Unit stationed in Bétera is “a source of pride for Spain and for NATO” due to the values it upholds and to its double function as Land Component Command of NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) and Headquarters of the NATO Response Force (NRF). He also stressed the need to increase investment in the defence sector and its role as driving force.

Minister Morenés and his entourage also held a meeting with CGTAD commander Lieutenant General Comas Abad and personnel from the Unit. He was briefed on the activities being carried out at the base, its capabilities and its plans for the immediate future.

The acting defence minister then visited the facilities and an exhibition of equipment from the HQ Support Battalion, the 1st Military Police Battalion and the 21st Signals Regiment.
