A teaching captain from the Military Academy of NBC Defence, which is integrated into the War Academy of the Spanish Army, has taken part in a course with real chemical agents at the NBC Defence Centre of the Serbian Armed Forces in Krusevac from 18 to 22 April.

The aim of the course was to put into practice NBC protection, detection, identification and decontamination procedures with real agents, both in the lab and in the training field.

The beginning of the course consisted of an overview of the characteristics of chemical agents, security measures, procedures and detection equipment which would be used during the training. Two training activities were then held, one in the lab and a second in the training field. During the next two days, the main activities with real agents took place in the training field.

The agents used included vesicants such as yperite (also known as mustard gas) and lewisite, and nerve agents such as sarin, tabun and soman.

On the other hand, the officer from the Military Academy of NBC Defence had the opportunity to test the performance of several NBC elements which are part of the Spanish Army’s regulatory equipment in the presence of real agents, e.g. the liquid chemical detection paper, the nerve agent vapour detector and the chemical decontamination mitt.
