The 6th Parachute Brigade ‘Almogávares’ has begun its third mission in Lebanese territory, after General Pérez de Aguado assumed leadership of the Eastern sector. The transfer of authority ceremony took place at the base ‘Miguel de Cervantes’ in Marjayoun on 21 May.

The paratroopers make up the 25th rotation Spain displays in Lebanon in the context of the United Nations peacekeeping operation. They have relieved the members of the Legion Brigade, who over the last six months have been ensuring compliance with UN Resolution 1701.

The ceremony was presided over by the second commander of the mission, General Saneep Singh Bajaj, who was handed over the UN flag by General Martín Cabrero and passed it on to General Pérez de Aguado.

The bulk of the contingent comes from the Parachute Brigade, but it also includes troops from other Spanish units, such as the 8th Regiment ‘Lusitania’ and the 11th Logistic Support Group, and personnel from Brazil, El Salvador, Mexico and Serbia.
