The new combat helmets and their covers will be received in 2017.

During year 2017, the Spanish Army soldiers will be receiving the new combat helmet −COBAT-1−. It will be manufactured by the Spanish company, FECSA. The delivery of 40,000-plus expected units will be done in several phases in a 3-year period ending, in principle, in 2019.

The required rigorous approval to warrant materials and design, to maximize its resistance and functionality, has not made easy to find a company that satisfies the strict technical specifications. Hence, the corporate bodies in charge to get material for the Spanish Army have been working from 2003 to find a helmet model that significantly improves the combatant´s protection.

The arrival of this protection item arrives at the same time as its new cover. It is a cloth cover that will also have relevant design novelties.  The cover will have back pockets for attachments or counterweight; Velcro to set patches and reflective strips (‘cateye-type’); belt loops to place natural elements to improve camouflage around, chemical light or electronic id elements. Also, it will have strap openings for night vision. The cover fabric will be more resistant and reinforced in the front to avoid wearing down and tearing it because of the night vision goggles.
