Toxicology for chemical war officers, individual NBC protection and health care for chemical casualties were some of the subjects covered on the First Pre-hospital Chemical Management Course of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), organised by the NBC Military Defence School, from 20 to 23 June in Hoyo de Manzanares (Madrid).

The course benefitted from the participation of students from 19 countries of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Convention: Algeria, Brazil, Bhutan, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Greece, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Mauritius, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Romania, Sudan, The Dominican Republic, The Philipines, Ukraine and Zimbabwe.

The course ended with an an exercise at the Health Brigade training field, where students put the knowledge they had acquired into practice in scenarios with casualties affected by sarine gas. Likewise, they could check the functioning of the NBC Decontaminiation Health Centre first-hand, integrating it with personnel in order to decontaminate simulated casualties.

The course was within the framework of collaboration activities between the School and the OPCW, whose Assistance and Protection Network is part of the school's Chemical Defence Department.
