Aerial Systems Obtainment Group (GROSA) is participating in a fire-prevention campaign in the Castilla and León Region this summer.  This support derives from the collaboration agreement signed for the first time between the Minister of Defense and the Regional Government´s Development and Environment Department.

The campaign started on the 15th of July and will conclude on the 15th of September.  During this period, the GROSA plane, manned by remote control, will fly over the Leonés countryside in order to prevent fires in an area where over 70% of fires are set intentionally.

The plane, which is controlled from the Pajares de los Oteros airdrome (León), detects possible hotspots and sends the coordinates to the regional governments prevention service in hopes that the that they can contain the attempted fire; or provide fire coordinates already detected for vigilance or  in order to set up a perimeter.

The aircraft weighs more than 300 kilos, it has a range of 250 km, it can reach a velocity of up to 65 knots and has an altitude of 6,000 feet.
