Regiment of NBC (NBQ in Spanish) Defense participates at the radiological exercise "Hades"

Nº1 Regiment of NBC (Nuclear, Biological and Chemical) Defense units have come back to the Centre of Energetic, Enviromental and Technological Investigations Centre's (CIEMAT in Spanish) subsoil in Madrid in the last edition of the radiological exercise "Hades" that took place from the 18th to the 22nd of September.

I/1 Battalion NBC's personnel has carried out there the recognition and radiological descontamination practices, working at five metres in depth, which requires a previous and intense preparation with vertical descent and also working with confined spaces.

On the other hand, the Sampling and Identification of Biological, Chemical and Radiological Agents Team (SIBCRA in Spanish) of the II/1 Technical Unit, together with Battalion's Reconnaissance NBC Team carried out detection exercises of radioactive sources, highlighting among them, enriched uranium, used as nuclear fuel, and impoverished uranium, used in certain ammunition of other countries.

In this way, NBC Regiment's components could improve their instruction level and intervention protocols in radiological areas, aim that looks for a collaborative convention that is kept with the CIEMAT, being the reason why the unit annually participates in this kind of exercise, in which the Centre sets outs high-level requests scenes, acting as technical adviser.
