The JEME headed the ceremony of Transfer of Authority of the second chief of the NATO's Staff in Bétera

The general of the Army Francisco Javier Varela Salas, chief of general staff of the Spanish Army, has headed the ceremony of Transfer of Authority of the second chief of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps' Headquarters (abbreviated in English as HQ NRDC-ESP) at base "Jaime I" in Bétera (Valencia), the 15th of January.
 

The Portuguese General Nelson Viegas Pires has been appointed second chief of the HQ NRDC-ESP, post took by Portugal, after the promotion of General Rui D. Guerra Pereira to general lieutenant, who carried out that commitment. The Portuguese JEME, General Frederico J. Rovisco Duarte also attended to this change of command.

During the ceremony, general lieutenant Francisco José Gan Pampols, chief of the HQ NRDC-ESP, welcome general Viegas and his family in Valencia, and he addressed some words of thanks to general Guerra due to the labour performed during his year as second chief, wishing him the best in his new destination in Portugal.

Moreover during the 14th and 15th of January, the Portuguese JEME visited the two bases of the Staff, at Santo Domingo Headquarters in Valencia, well-known as Captaincy General, and base "Jaime I" in Bétera, where the Spanish military personnel work together with personnel of allied armies. 
 

At Bétera's base he visited the Command Post of the HQ NRDC-ESP, where he came into contact with the aids that the NRDC possesses in order to be able to deploy wherever it is necessary with total autonomy, as well as the sophisticated system of command and control so that operations with 50.000 soldiers can be conducted, both in missions contemplated in the 5th article of the North Atlantic Trade and as answer to the crisis.
