Two soldiers from the 6th Extremadura Brigade have taken part in some sessions carried out from the 15th-16th of April in the ‘Franc Uršič’ barracks in Novo Mesto (Slovenia) to facilitate the integration of the Slovenian platoon which will form part of the Spanish sapper company which will be deployed in Latvia in the second half of this year.

The participants were Major García, who will be the chief of support to the contingent’s Command, and Captain Banderas, chief of the Engineer Company of the 5th Advanced Reinforced Presence mission.

As well as integration, the objective is to coordinate the operating of the command and control and achieve interoperativity between both units. In this way, the Spanish sappers could see first hand the Slovenian platoon’s equipment and review operational procedures and adapt them to the Slovenian’s strucutre. Furthermore, they resolved the difficulty of connecting the two units which have different equipment and ways of working.

The Slovenian contribution is very significant because they only have one sapper battalion in the whole Armed Forces. For this reason, it is essential to carry out training days like this before their deployment in the operation zone.
