EThe 6th Saboya Infantry Regiment from the 11th ‘Extremadura’ Brigade took part in an exercise in the Manoeuvre and Firing Range in Bótoa (Badajoz) from the 10th to the 14th of June.

Specifically, the 2nd Rifle Company and the Command and Support Company from the II/6 ‘Las Navas’ Protected Infantry Battalion participated in the exercise. The objective was training for the Battalion’s annual preparation missions for 2019, principally in techniques for generalised combat and urban zones.

The tactical exercise set up different actions: offence, defence and support, within which all of the capabilities of the companies which were involved were used. For example, Armoured Truck Transport (TOA, to use its Spanish acronym) with 12.70mm heavy machine guns, Spyke missiles from the anti-tank defence squads, Barret rifles from the precision shooters, and 120mm heavy mortars mounted on TOA were all employed in the exercise. Furthermore, exercises using real fire, topographical tours, anti-improvised explosive device (IED) training and night marches with vehicles were all carried out.

Finally, the Battalion’s command station was activated and deployed and they carried out a planning exercise in which, for the first time, the new planning process for operations at tactical level was used. This process is being developed by the Training and Indoctrination Command.
