LAW 8/2006, OF 24TH APRIL, ON TROOP AND SEAMEN

The members of the Military Medical Corps, grouped into the Upper Officer and Officer Scales, have as their mission, within the scope of the Ministry of Defence and its autonomous organisms, health care attention in the logistic-operational and welfare fields, and those related with psychology, pharmacy and veterinary medicine.
In undertaking their missions they will exercise the command function in centres or organisms.  Also corresponding to them are the functions of administration and logistics, command, technical-medical and training support related with these missions.   
In the Military Medical Corps’ Upper Officer Scale, there are the fundamental specialities of Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine and Odontology.
In the Military Medical Corps’ Officer Scale, there is a single fundamental speciality, that of Nursing.
The employments of the Military Medical Corps are those of lieutenant to major general on the Upper Officer Scale and those of 2nd lieutenant to lieutenant colonel on the Officer Scale, all of which have the denominations of the corresponding employment followed by the term doctor, pharmacist, veterinarian, odontologist, psychologist or nurse, according to each case.  
To join the Military Medical Corps’ Upper Officer Scale it is necessary to have a university degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine or Odontology. To do so in the Officer Scale it is obligatory to hold the official nursing title of DUE.
