The NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Spain Headquarters has conducted the exercise “Valiant Jackal 19” (VJ19), in the Bétera Military Base, home of the HQ, from April 1 to 12. The aim of VJ19 was to train the HQ before the exercise Trident Jackal 19, which will take place in September this year and will serve to validate and certificate the headquarters as Joint Headquarters (JHQ), to assume this commitment starting in January next year.

During these two weeks, a command post has been deployed as a Joint Task Force Headquarters with the necessary capabilities to conduct a small joint operation land heavy. Furthermore, the Joint Logistic Support Group (JLSG) command post has also been deployed to conduct logistic operations and movements in a joint multinational environment.

“Valiant Jackal 19” was a command post exercise based on fictitious injects to be managed and resolved by the staff. More than 400 soldiers from 12 allied nations participated in the exercise. The exercise was focused on testing the operational procedures while practicing the interaction between the JTF and JLSG command posts.

In addition to the NRDC-ESP Headquarters, other Spanish units have also participated in the exercise, such as the Support Battalion, the Military Police Battalion, the Logistics Brigade and the Signals Brigade.

The NRDC-ESP Headquarters will assume the critical role as Joint Task Force Headquarters (JTF HQ) 2020. Prior to that, an evaluation and certification process will be carried out during the exercise Trident Jackal 19, scheduled for late September through early October 2019. Once the certification is granted, NRDC-ESP will assume the role as standby JHQ for one year on the first of January 2020.
