SPANISH GENERAL ALBERTO ASARTA IS THE NEW COMMANDER OF THE UNITED NATIONS MISSION IN LEBANON.
On 9th December the secretary general of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, appointed Spanish General Alberto Asarta Cuevas to be commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (FINUL). General Asarta will take up the post on 28th January next in replacement of Italian General Claudio Graziano, who has held the post for three years

IN OPERATION THE NEW MODULE AT SPANISH ANTARCTIC BASE “GABRIEL DE CASTILLA”.
Since 4th December, service personnel and scientists participating in the 23rd Antarctic Campaign have enjoyed the new living area On Spanish Antarctic Base "Gabriel de Castilla", situated on Deception Island, following the conclusion of installation remodelling work.

THE MENORCA CONSORTIUM, AN EXAMPLE OF A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEMS OF MILITARY INSTALLATIONS IN DISUSE.
The solution taken in Menorca to maintain ownership of the military installations without incurring expenses for the institution by means of the creation of a Consortium has demonstrated its viability after more than a decade of existence, thus serving as an example for other garrisons in similar situations.
