The office of the Spanish Chief of the Army Staff has frescos of classical scenes on the ceiling. The gilded bronze chandelier dates from the first half of the 19th century. A portrait of king Juan Carlos I in battledress dominates the office, although the portraits of Felipe V, by the French painter Van Loo, and that of Carlos III, attributed to the Spanish painter Salvador Maella, are more important artistically. The canvas "Triumphant entrance of the Army of Africa in Madrid" is reminiscent of the African Campaign undertaken by the Spanish Army in 1860.
