Students of the DOMEX (Document and Media Exploitation) course were able to improve their skills regarding the technological exploitation of paper documents, digital archives, telephones and other means of communication which may be captured from the enemy. The course was held in a special facility which is dedicated to this topic in the ‘Diego Porcelos’ barracks in Burgos from the 17th to the 21st of June.

During their practices, they were accompanied by experts from the headquarters of the ‘San Marcial’ Division, which is the benchmark unit for this discipline in the Land Forces sector. Previously, a theory phase was carried out in NATO’s Centre for Excellence Against Improvised Explosive Devices’ facilities in Hoyo de Manzanares (Madrid), which organised the course.

Members of the Armed Forces, the National Police Force and soldiers from other allied countries also took part in the course. The objective was to increase staff training in relation to the gathering and analysis of different mediums which can be extremely useful to intelligence services and other areas related to data mining. The full DOMEX course includes evidence gathering, tagging, chain of custody, analysis and exploitation.
