NATO’s Rapid Deployment Headquarters in Betera (HQ NRDC-ESP) began its deployment operation on the island of Menorca, embarking from the port of Valencia on the 31st of August with the personnel and material resources that will participate in the ‘Trident Jackal’ exercise.

The deployment, which will be carried out in the ‘San Isidro’ base in Mahón from September until the middle of October will be completed in various waves, by air and by sea, until the 22nd of September. By then, there should be a total of 1000 soldiers (from 24 countries), 113 vehicles, 30 trailers and 120 containers on the island, all scheduled to participate in the exercise.

‘Trident Jackal’ is the most important scheduled command post exercise in 2019, which will allow the HQ NRDC-ESP to be evaluated and certified by NATO in order to take on the role of the Joint Head Quarters of the alliance’s Force Structure throughout 2020.

For this, they will have to plan and run a joint operation which is mostly on land but also has elements from the Navy, the Air Force and Special Operations, all from the Headquarters command post. Moreover, the command post of the Joint Logistical Support Group will also be deployed and will be responsible for the logistical aspects of the operation.
