Maneuver Function (I)

martes 23 de abril de 2019

Número: 79

It will be critical to integrate the terrestrial manoeuver with that of the field of information in the future, and cyberwar will be an increasingly lethal threat.

Maneuver Function

The combination of fires, movements, electromagnetic actions, cyber defense and cyber attacks, civil-military cooperation actions, psychological operations and public communication actions form the new paradigm of maneuver at the tactical level.

In this scenario, the maneuver of the 35th Brigade will be the result of the integration of the maneuver in the physical domain - with its traditional dimensions (terrestrial, aerial and electromagnetic space) - and the maneuver of information, liberated in the virtual and cognitive domain, with its dimensions of cyberspace, perceptions and human behavior.

Physical Maneuver

Maneuver Function

Seeks terrain dominance, both terrestrial as well as aerial and electromagnetic.

The physical maneuver of the 35th Brigade is materialized mainly through the activities in the three components of movement and fire, terrain dominance, and mobility and countermobility.

  • The movement of all the elements of command and units with the maximum rapidity, to reach the operative advantage in front of an increasingly sophisticated adversary, and the fire to achieve superiority in confrontation. The means of producing indirect fire (mortars) and direct fire (missiles) of the manoeuvre units will be connected to the Remotely Piloted Air Systems (RPAS) to facilitate the location of targets.
  • Terrain dominance must be achieved in the three components of the physical dimension of the ground maneuver (surface, air-ground and underground), always relying on the two non-physical components (cognitive and cybernetic). Strategic and tactical anticipation contributes to achieving terrain dominance. Failing this, it will be achieved by means of effective or potential fire and as a last resort by means of shock, so that the ground forces must have the capacity to dominate the terrain with a progressive use of movement and fire.
  • Mobility and counter-mobility; it will be necessary to have means of crossing obstacles (deep crevices, rivers...), clearing routes, against mines and explosive devices, as well as rehabilitation of communication routes.

Brigade Materialisation:

  • Three Combat Groups based on the Infantry battalion, whose main material is the 8x8 Dragon with 30 mm cannon.
  • Cavalry Group with three squadrons, which will be integrated in each of the three Combat Groups, equipped with 8x8 Dragon combat vehicles and Centaur vehicles, with 105 mm cannon.
  • Sappers Battalion, whose main materials are the Sappers Combat Vehicles on 8x8 Dragon platform, Vehicles Launched Bridges and earth moving means.

Information Maneuver

Activities that make information maneuvering possible:

  • CEMA (Cyberelectromagnetic Activity), provided by the Transmissions Command.
  • Intelligence, which will be handled by Intelligence Regiment No. 1.
  • Information obtained through Civil-Military Cooperation and Psychological Operations (Information Operations Regiment No. 1); and Public Communication (ad hoc).

Brigade Materialisation:

The specific means for the information maneuver will not come from the Brigade, but will be provided by upper echelons, and some of them will include specialized civilian personnel.

An ad hoc group will be formed with all the necessary capabilities, bearing in mind that most of them will remain in Reach-Back (outside the Theatre of Operations). In the Reach-Back Command Post, there will be a cross-cutting planning element called Committee-B (new concept), of which the representatives of the analysis and integration teams of each subordinate capacity will participate in.
