General Musa Avsever, Chief of Staff of the Turkish Army, visited NATO Rapid Deployable Corps  Headquarters (HQ NRDC-ESP) at the Bétera military base this morning, accompanied by the Spanish Army Chief of Staff, Army General Amador Enseñat y Berea, and the commander of HQ NRDC-ESP, Lieutenant General Fernando García-Vaquero Pradal.

On his arrival at the Bétera base, he visited a static exhibition of the 21st Signal Regiment, the HQ Support Battalion and the Military Police Battalion I, to learn about some of their operational capabilities. He then went to the tactical command post of the NRDC-ESP HQ deployed on collective protection tents (COLPRO), where he was briefed on the composition, organisation and capabilities that the headquarters has acquired as the headquarters for high-intensity operations (Warfighting Corps, WFC). HQ NRDC.-ESP is currently on stand-by period as WFC until the end of this year. He ended his visit in Bétera by signing the Unit's Book of Honour.

General Avsever's visit is a recognition of Spain's important contribution to the Alliance as a reliable partner, as well as the outstanding work of HQ NRDC-ESP within the NATO Force Structure (NFS), materialized this year 2022 with the stand-by period as NATO's warfighting corps headquarters for high intensity operations that will end next December 31.

Personnel from HQ NRDC-ESP recently participated in the Loyal Leda 2022 exercise, which served to certify its counterpart headquarters in Turkey, HQ NRDC-T, as a warfighting corps headquarters, a task for which it will be on standby period as of 1 January 2023, following the end of HQ NRDC-ESP. At the end of the exercise on 9 December, a handover ceremony took place in Istanbul, the headquarters of HQ NRDC-T, in which Lieutenant General Fernando García-Vaquero handed over the Warfighting Corps guidon to his Turkish counterpart, Lieutenant General Levent Ergün.
