Welcome to the Spanish High Readiness Land Military Staff HQ´s Website (CGTAD in Spanish). Here you will get to know the history, organization, capacities, facilities and main activities that we carry out.

The Spanish High Readiness Land Military Staff HQ (CGTAD) was created on October 11th 2004 by Royal Decree (2015/2004). In January 2016, the new Spanish Army organization administrative instruction 7/2016 in which the above mentioned CGTAD appears as the first level command of Army Force. It is organized as follows: International Staff, General Secretariat and other support forces. The Staff located in Bétera, Valencia, is open to volunteer allied personnel, therefore it is for this matter one of the rapid deployment HQ NRDC-ESP.

Even though the HQ NRDC-ESP is currently composed of military personnel from 9 countries: France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, United States and Spain, it does have its doors open to other members nations. This International HQ not only proves Spain´s commitment with NATO but also the chance to be HQ of the Spanish Army or Land Component Command with the operational structure of the Armed Forces. Currently, the NRDC-ESP Spain HQ is in alertness as the new eNRF (Enhanced NATO Response Force) for 2016. The activation as LLC (Land Component Command) of the new eNRF 2016 started on Jan. 1st and will end on Dec- 31st.

Lieutenant General Francisco Javier Varela, NRDC-ESP Commander, visited the 34 Greek Infantry Mechanized Brigade. The 34 Brigade is one of the affiliated units to the HQ NRDC-ESP.

Deputy Commander HOTO Ceremony

On 13 January 2017, NATO Rapid Deployable – Spain hosted a Hand Over – Take Over ceremony to mark the change from Major General, Portuguese Army, Tiago Vasconcelos to Major General, Portuguese Army, Rui Guerra Pereira as Deputy Commander.
