New Lieutenants receive their Royal Degrees

In the General Military Academ

On the 11th of July, a total of 392 new officers from the General Military Academy in Zaragoza received Royal Degrees that certify their achievement of reaching Lieutenant and the completion of their Academic Formation.

The act was presided over by The Minister of Defence, María Dolores de Cospedal, who was in charge of presenting Royal Degrees to the best officers (the students that have obtained the best qualifications) of the different Army Corps and Levels within the Army and the Civil Guard, as well as awarding the Military Merit Cross and the Civil Guard Merit respectively.

She was accompanied by the Chief of the Army Staff, General Francisco Javier Varela and the General Director of the Academy, General Luis Lanchares, as well as other civilian authorities and soldiers.

Of those 392 new officers, 245 belong to the Land Forces and 147 to the Civil Guard.  First, 189 are from the LXXII General Corps promotion.  Within the same group, 168 have studied the first four years in the General Military Academy in Zaragoza and the last year in specialized academies (Infantry in Toledo; Artillery in Segovia; Cavalry in Valladolid; Engineering and Transmission in Hoyo de Manzanares, Madrid).  They are the third promotion that have obtained Engineering Degrees in Industrial Organization.

The 21 remaining Army Corps Lieutenants were accepted through internal promotion by previous entitlement.  They have taken two years of Military Studies, the first in Zaragoza and the second in Weapons Academies.

Likewise, 29 Lieutenants from the Logistics Corps and 27 Lieutenants from the Polytechnic Engineer Corps received their Royal Degrees, - 26 from University Studies and one as a supplement.
