At Zagan

Over 1,300 Spanish soldiers have trained alongside Albanian, British, American and Polish soldiers – 2,500 troops in all.

The Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) has completed its training in Poland with the end of exercise ‘Valiant Falcon 16’, which took place at the Zagan training area.

‘Valiant Falcon 16’ aimed at integrating the planning capabilities and command and control systems of participating units, streamlining management procedures and the exchange of information, and coordinating the training activities of the VJTF Brigade.

Over 1,300 Spanish soldiers were deployed in the village of Świętoszów and at the military installations of Camp Karliki. They trained alongside Albanian, British, American and Polish soldiers – 2,500 troops in all.

During its stay in Poland, the Spanish contingent within the VJTF took part in the Alliance exercise ‘Brilliant Jump 16’, which ran from 17 to 27 May, during which it reached full operational capacity. It also carried out Spanish exercise 'Valiant Falcon 16’, which began on 28 May. And since 6 June, it was also involved in exercise ‘Anakonda 16’, led by the Polish Armed Forces.

On Friday 10 the Spanish soldiers who travelled to Poland begin their redeployment, which will last into the second half of June. They have been readying the new force – led by Spain during the current year – so that it is able to face any threat to Allied security wherever it might come from.
