Exercise ‘Alertex’
The forces Spain is contributing to NATO’s new Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) –whose land component the Spanish Army is leading throughout 2016 – have put to the test their high readiness and immediate deployment capabilities during exercise “Alertex”, which ran from 1 to 10 April.
After receiving the activation order on 1 April, NATO’s Bétera HQ, the 7th Light Infantry Brigade “Galicia” and the logistic support element of the Logistic Force were gradually activated. The necessary vehicles travelled from their permanent bases to the ports and airports of embarkation in order to check procedures.
Exercise “Alertex” was the first phase of exercise “Brilliant Jump 16”, which was conceived to assess the effectiveness of the measures contained in the Readiness Action Plan approved at the 2014 Wales Summit. Those measures put to the test the forces and HQs which are on alert during 2016.
