Members of the future Protection Unit from the 'Inherent Resolve Misson' from the coalition and the Protection Force from the NATO Mission Iraq Operation have begun their special training for these operations with an alpha exercise, carried out from the 13th to the 17th of May in the Renedo- Cabezón manouevre and shooting range in Valladolid.

The 2nd Company and a platoon from the 3rd Company of the 1st Legazpi Battalion of the 67th Tercio Viejo de Sicilia Regiment, belonging to the 11th Extremadura Brigade, have been deployed for the exercise.

During their time in Valladolid, they carried out offensive operations and began to work with the mission's specific techniques, tactics and procedures. Furthermore, the unit practiced integrating the disposal team from the Engineers with the rest of the platoons with vehicle exercises, and by simulating convoy escorts and scouting trial runs. They were also able to perfect shooting and the use of VAMTAC (high mobility tactical vehicles) platforms to fire from vehicles.

In this way, they have started the instruction and training period which is part of the period of specific training which they will have to complete before their deployment to the operations zone.
