Storm 'Emma' fills with tourists 'El Fuerte' base

'El Fuerte' base of La Palma has become these last days into an improvised hotel for around 400 tourists, most of them from England, France and Germany, due to the fact that the storm "Emma" left them without the possibility of coming back to their countries.

Various cancelled flights and the closure of the Canarian airport during hours due to the adverse weather conditions, left hundred of travelers without place where stay at night from the 26th to the 28th of February. To face this situation and also to avoid that the tourists slept at the airport, the authorities from the island requested to the Spanish Army its collaboration.

Finally, 189 people the day 26th, and 210 the day 28th spent the nights at the staff's facilities, showing the willingness of the Spanish Army to help whenever it is necessary.
