The 1st Regiment of NBC Defense "Valencia" participates in the exercise "Ánfora"

Personnel of the 1st Regiment of NBC Defense "Valencia" (NBQ in Spanish) and the Department of NBC Defense and Energy Materials belonging to the INTA's General Area of Land Systems (National Institute of Aerospace Technique) have participated in the exercise "Ánfora", which has been conducted at the Technological Institute "La Marañosa" (ITM), in Madrid, from the 5th to the 9th of March.

During the exercise the planning and implementation of initial reconnaissance operations and the transfer of stages between a reconnaissance team of the 1st Regiment  of NBC (1st Battalion) and the SIBCRA (Sampling and Identification of Biological, Chemical and Radiological Agents) of the Technical Unit  (UT II/1) belonging to the 1st Regiment of NBC (2nd Battalion) have been conducted. There has been also a decontamination at the exits of the scenes, in both, the personnel, and the material of the sampling container, carried out by the personnel of the UT's Unit of Support to Decontamination. Likewise, a technical escort of the samples and the procedure of delivering them to the laboratory responsible of their analysis have been performed (chain custody).

This exercise is framed inside the habitual collaboration between the 1st Regiment "Valencia" and the INTA-ITM. The personnel of the NBC Defense Department of the ITM prepared altogether three stages (a chemical, a radiological and a mixed biological-radiological scene) at hight technical and operative level of difficulty. In the last day, a critical analysis, in which the techniques and employed procedures were revised, was conducted in order to draw the learnt lessons.
