United Nations Mission to the Western Sahara

In 1991 two senior army officers took part in this mission as experts on the region and its population.

Their mission was to assist other observers on the ground in their trips around the territory to conduct a census. The latter was expected to be used to decide who would be entitled to vote in the referendum on the self-determination of the territory.

The mission lasted approximately 20 days.
