30th Libre Hidalgo

On 21st November 2018, at a ceremony presided by the Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL),  MJ Stefano del Col, together with the Spanish ambassador in Lebanon, José María Ferré de la Peña, as well as a number of civil, religious and military authorities from Southern Lebanon, has taken place the transfer of authority between general José Luis Sánchez Martínez-Falero, Chief of  29th Brigade ‘Lebanon’, and general Antonio Romero Losada, chief of 7th Brigade ‘Galicia, that from now on will lead the UNIFIL Eastern sector, in command of 30th BRILIB.

General Martínez-Falero wanted to express his gratitute to the Lebanese people for their hospitality and support. ‘To the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) for their cooperation and joint work, and to the Force Commander and General Headquarters for his support in the most delicate moments’, he claimed. He also emphasised how hard such a deployment is at a family level, highlighting the professionalism of 30th BRILIB members.

General Romero Losada has put new 30th BRILIB at the disposal of UNIFIL Force Commander and of the Lebanese authorities. Its aim: to keep safeguarding the compliance of the UN Security Council resolutions, ensuring that it will continue the line of work started by its predecessors.

The core of the Spanish contingent is at ‘Miguel de Cervantes’ base, home of the General Headquarters Sector, the Senior Staff of the Light Protected Tactical Group, Cavalry Unit, Engineering Unit, Logistics Unit, Transmissions Unit, General Headquarters Unit, Base Support Unit and Civil Guard.
