KSPAGT V

The "Farnesio" Battalion Task Force (KSPAGT V) was deployed in Kosovo between March and September 2001.

Under the command of Colonel José Muñoz Muñoz, it was composed of 750 people from the 4th Regiment of the Legion based at Montejaqe quarters in Ronda (Málaga).

The Combat Group was organised into a High Level Command (from the 4th Regiment of the Legionnaire Brigade), Infantry Company (from the 10th Light Infantry Company "Millán Astray"), a Cavalry Squadron from the 8th Cavalry Regiment "Lusitania", a Communications Unit (from the Legionnaire Brigade (Brileg) Headquarters Battalion), an Intelligence Unit, a Civic-Military Co-operation Team and a Military Police Unit.

Additionally, another 120 people formed part of the relief personnel in the Special Operations Unit (coming from the 3rd Special Operations Group in Alicante), the Engineering Unit (from the Sapper Unit of the Legionnaire Brigade (Brileg) and the Civic-Military Co-operation Unit (from Troop Headquarters in Tenerife), all of which report to Multinational Brigade West.

Along with the "Farnesio" Combat Group, a unit of 120 additional troops was sent to the area after the withdrawal of the Portuguese force.

In addition to the habitual area monitoring missions, escorting ethnic minority groups and safe-guarding Serbian patrimonial sites, KSPAGT V reinforced the work of other brigades in the Mitrovica region and in the demilitarised zone established on the Kosovar border.
