KSPAGT XV

Task Force “EXTREMADURA” began its mission in Kosovo on 6th February 2006, the date of the Transfer of Authority (TOA) with its predecessor.

It is constituted with core troops from the Mechanised Infantry Brigade.

Task Force “EXTREMADURA XI" is based in Botoa (Badajoz). Its 531 members are at the command of Colonel Nicolás de Bari Millán Cruz and for the most part come from this Brigade. Members of the National Logistics Support Element join them to reach a total of 710 soldiers in the Area of Operations.

Also, the Task Force integrates a company from the 12th Light Armoured Cavalry Regiment "FARNESIO" (Valladolid) and a small Civil Guard unit.

Task Force "EXTREMADURA”, whose presence in Kosovo is foreseen until mid July 2006, will act within the framework of the Multinational Brigade Southwest based in Prizren.

The mission of Task Force "KSPAGT XV" is, within its approximately 470 km2 area of responsibility, and under the auspices of UN Resolution 1244:

  • To contribute to the general process of peace consolidation and stability in Kosovo.
  • To guarantee the freedom of movements.
  • To maintain a safe environment for ethnic minority groups.
  • To provide protection at national heritage sites. To maintain control of the administrative boundaries with Serbia and Montenegro.
