KSPFOR XIX

Task Force “Ceuta” (KSPFOR XIX), situated on Base “España”, in the locality of Istok, at the command of Colonel José Acevedo Espejo, began its mission on 16th December 2007, with the Transfer of Authority Ceremony.

The twentieth Spanish Force for Kosovo puts itself at the disposal of the United Nations by means of NATO, according to the commitment taken on by Spain, owing to UNO Resolution 1241. The Spanish unit has been included in Multinational Task Force –West, under Italian command, whose headquarters is in the locality of Pec.

In all, Task Force “KSPFOR XIX” is made up of 585 personnel, the bulk from Ceuta General Command units. Of these, 116 belong to the 21st Logistic Support Group in Seville and the 22nd Logistic Support Group in Granada.

Ceuta General Command Forces have participated previously in missions abroad, in Bosnia from September 2005 to January 2006, and in Kosovo, from September to March 2005 (Task Force “KSPAGT VIII”).

Multinational Brigade Southwest, based in Prizren, has been transformed into two different task forces: “South”, which will stay in this locality, made up of Germans, Turks and Austrians, along with “West”, integrated by Spaniards and Italians.

The Spanish mission, within the Multinational Force framework, will be in charge of maintaining a stable, safe environment in the assigned Area of Responsibility, as well as guaranteeing the freedom of movements within the same, in this manner contributing to achieving the security aspects of UNO Resolution 1244 and the Accord reached with Serbia.
