Some twenty mountaineers, civilian and military, participated in the 1st season of the Complete Crossing of the 3,000 metre peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, an event organised by the Training and Doctrine Command to celebrate Armed Forces Day and was undertaken from 16th to 18th May.

Five of the mountaineers chose the complete category, which consisted of climbing the most important 3,000 metre peaks of this mountain range, beginning from the east —in the locality of Jeres del Marquesado— to end at its western end —the so-called Cerro del Caballo—, in the municipality of Nigüelas. In all, there were 45 kilometres and 3,500 metres of height difference.  The other participants joined this group on 18th May, in the ascent of Carigüela del Veleta (a 3,200 metre altitude).

Together they carried out the descent on skis of the Lanjarón Valley until the Cerro del Caballo. The difficulty of the route and the adverse weather conditions did not prevent the expert mountaineers, belonging to the High Mountain Military Group, and the specialized sportspersons from the Municipal Government, the Provincial Government and the University of Granada, to overcome the challenge.
