The 1st Troop Training Centre has moved to the “Cigüeñas” Palace in the city of Cáceres a zoomorphic sculpture dating back 2,000 years and corresponding to what is known as the Iberian period; it was discovered some years ago by military personnel in an area bordering Base “Santa Ana”, where it was at risk of deterioration due to the inclemency of the weather.
The relocation of this valuable archaeological piece, similar to others that are shown at the city’s Provincial Fine Art Museum, has been undertaken while protecting its security at all times.

A Cultural Reference

The “Cigüeñas” Palace, property of the Ministry of Defence and formerly Military Government headquarters, is located in the heart of the old town in Cáceres. At present in its installations it has a space for undertaking periodic temporary exhibitions in collaboration with public and private institutions, as well as an important permanent collection from those belonging to the Army Museum, made up of a catalogue of around 300 antique weapons, in addition to other pieces from 75th Regiment "Segovia" and 27th Regiment "Argel" . Bearing witness to its importance to the city’s cultural heritage are the over 25,000 visitors that it has had in just the first semester of this year.
