Number: 1310

A Tigre attack helicopter patrol has for the first time carried out fire with its 30mm cannon and 68mm rockets on the Air Force’s Firing Range in the ‘Bárdenas Reales’ region (Navarra).

The 1st Attack Helicopter Battalion, based in Almagro (Ciudad Real), within its instruction and training programme has undertaken firing exercises at San Gregorio and Chinchilla National Training Centres, at the ‘El Arenosillo’ Experimentation Centre (Huelva), but none of these locations has offered the advantages for fire from an attack helicopter that the ‘las Bárdenas Reales’ Firing Range has. Some of these are specific cannon and rocket targets with fire precision indication from a control tower, as well as the presence of various real targets for live fire.

The Tigre helicopters’ exercise has been undertaken on 4th and 5th December, following a co-ordination meeting with the Air Force Staff in order to adopt helicopter fire procedures at the Firing Range, which is habitually used for instruction and training of Air Force combat aircraft.
